First month of harvesting . . . .

Wow, He begun the good works in me and He surely is bringing it to completion. . .

The road has been bumpy, taken all my energy and strength.

Things usually do not work as planned, but some how they work and I bless God .

Updates . . . .

Wow it been Two months since we planted the tomatoes and surely I have seen God's guidance and wisdom.

Basically the farm moved from my back yard to my village . . . the land where i will eventually lay to rest - if there will be space because I am hoping to utilize it all in agriculture.
I am continually challenged by the kind of lack i come by when I visit the village, every one is looking for someone to bail them out of hunger and lack.

Right now we have recorded the heaviest down pour in over about 58years (as per the weather man  -  did he forget about Elnino), but what are we doing about it except whining about floods and too much rains. I promise one month after the rains we will have no water and no food because what has been planted is being washed away now!

I am not too convinced that the government will do much unless we just take control of our own lives and make them better. People need to harvest water, we need to plant trees as much as we can and we need to adopt the modern ways of farming that give maximum output.

I have one permanent employee and two temporary one who come in as there is demand for work .

We begin to harvest the tomatoes in the next two weeks God willing and I am busy now looking for buyers around Bondo and Siaya, amazingly in like two days we have had a list of ready buyers.

Eventually i will put my cost of running  this business for your guidance but all I can say is anyone can do this and excel as long as you have someone to manage the farm and a good consultant/ constructor who advises and visit the site as demand arises.

Phase two of the project is on watch this pace . . .

March updates:

It’s March and I was on leave travelled back to the farm to see my tomatoes begin their journey into stardom.

It’s been a lot of work, sunburn but I would say passion kept me waking up at 5am every day to go to this farm. We started transplanting on the 7th march 2012 and we have eight rows in the house. I have seen lots of chemicals and fertilizers however I am excited.

Your gift will definately make a way for you, now i understand why  i grew up in that village watch my dad farm. He had lots of maize plantations, turkeys, lots of goats and sheep and dairy cattle

My prayer remains;-
1. God bless the works of my hands
2. Let the windows of heaven open as you have promised . . .
3. My life now is entirely in your hands and above al let your wisdom prevail.

My challenge to you:

  1. You don’t have to be dirty to be a farmer.
  2. The capital you need is far much affordable to you and  I who work in Nairobi, plus you could get funding from the banks or other lending institutions like SACCO.
  3. This can be done on those pieces of land most of us have bought and are doing nothing with, as you wait to build or resell when the value goes up keep that land busy, you will be shocked.
  4. Labor is readily available believe you me, just look harder and you could as well train someone who at least is schooled up to 4th form.   pay them well and make them the farm manager. I do not work with illiterate guys it’s too expensive for such investments.
  5. Jakinda ema keyo!

The Beginning!

This story is a big one and must always go on . . . .   I know beyond reasonable doubt that God is on my side and no one can be against me.

I was seated at some resort in the middle of Athi River (Kenya) listening to my boss who was proudly resigning from a very well-paying job not to hop into another one but to continue with her well-paying business.

Her message was” its been long years of trying to balance between my business and the job, I know that I know that I will be more happy focusing on my business now than working after all my business pays me more than my job currently”  WOW, what a sweet brag that was.

At the time she was leaving she had 13 employees several shops and an office to walk into and i just wanted to know how she pooled that off, seriuosly how did she do it?
This very talk which was more of a bye bye got me thinking like what would i say about me when the time comes for me to depart from the corporate world for one reason or another. Would there be anything to leave with when the time comes for me to depart from my job. Is there anything I could possibly do and succeed in apart from my job that i have so passionately done?

Well,  as they say the rest in history but here was the beginning of my farm at my back yard! :)
